Microsoft Update MS10-015 and the Alureon Rootkit

After it was determined that the bluescreen issues after installing a February Microsoft update (MS10-015) were the result of the Alureon rootkit on the machine (more info), a number of people were asking the question: How do I know if I will be impacted by this update.

The short answer is, if you are infected with the rootkit, you will be impacted. But all is not lost. Here are a couple of resources by well known antivirus companies to help you "search and destroy" the rootkit.

In addition, Symantec has some good information about how the rootkit impacted the update and what exactly caused the issue. (http://www.symantec.com/connect/blogs/tidserv-and-ms10-015)
