During my enterprise testing of Internet Explorer 8, somehow I enabled application compatibility logging on my test machine. While this didn't impact the functionality of the browser, I would get the following pop-up window every time I opened Internet Explorer for the first time:

Microsoft states this is NOT enabled by default. Big thanks go out to the Spyware Sucks blog for providing the fix. It was a simple registry edit:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\Feature_Enable_Compat_logging
Change the value from 1 to 0.
No reboot is needed. Although the Spyware Sucks blog mentions the fix for IE7, the same fix does in fact work in IE8.
The usual warnings of "registry editing can cause major damage to your system, etc", "be certain to back up your data, etc" apply.
